Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit, the purposes for which it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By using Buena Vista County Criminal History, you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log or store those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained so we can respond and maintain the related correspondence. We keep that message within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers may collect basic technical information when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Device category and operating system
  • Pages viewed and approximate time spent
  • A referring site, when one is supplied

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We and our analytics services use them to understand traffic patterns, such as which pages are viewed and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
  • Operating, maintaining, and improving site performance
  • Detecting errors and resolving technical problems
  • Measuring which content visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The site explains where Buena Vista County records are held by the sheriff, Iowa District Court, the Iowa Department of Public Safety's Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Iowa Code chapter 692 governs state criminal-history access and challenge rights through the official repository; it does not turn this private resource into a record custodian. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted there is handled under that provider's privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices. We do not control those policies. Review them before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Buena Vista County sheriff, Iowa court systems, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. Their tracking is governed by their policies.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and site function
  • Search companies that process a query submitted to their tool
  • Advertising networks that serve content on our pages
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard safeguards suited to the information we collect. No internet-connected system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will take steps to remove it.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. Iowa Code chapter 22 concerns records held by public bodies, not the files of this private site. Iowa Code chapter 692 separately gives a person rights to access and challenge that person's state criminal-history record through DCI. For personal data held by us, you may ask to:

  • Opt out of certain processing when that right applies
  • Obtain a copy of personal information we hold about you
  • Correct information that is inaccurate
  • Request deletion where the law permits it

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. An updated version and effective date will appear here when changes take effect.
